Nestled at the end of the Grange Peninsula, overlooking the sea on both sides, Humphrey Head Activity Centre is a residential centre for all. With over 100 years of heritage as an educational site, and an incredible mosaic of habitats to explore in every direction, we are dedicated to creating opportunities for young people to experience the splendour and adventure of being in a wild place, and to develop connection and belonging with the natural world. Our varied and exciting programmes offer a wide range of opportunities for people of all ages to develop their understanding of the natural world and their place within it.
Outdoor Education Programmes for schools, youth groups, and community organisations
With our own accomodation, minibus transport, and fantastic instructors, Humphrey Head is perfectly placed to create magical learning journeys to meet any educational goals. Operated by Mere Mountains, with 25 years of experience in outdoor leadership and education, we offer a fantastic range of residential and non-residential opportunities rooted in adventure, experiential learning, and local natural heritage.
Whether exploring the limestone headland, woodlands, seacliffs, and sands right on our doorstep, or venturing into the mountains and meres of the southern lake district to climb, canoe, ghyll scramble, and more, the natural environment is core to everything we do.

A stunning residential base, overlooking Morcambe Bay and the South Lakes
With incredible views, practical accomodation, and exclusive use for the duration of your stay, Humphrey Head is the ideal base to create memorable residential experiences. The centre has 56 beds spaced across 12 rooms, making it easy to divide your group up according to your needs. We have a spacious dining room, comfortable social spaces, and a professional catering kitchen with both catered and self-catering options available. There’s also a commercial grade drying room to sort all your kit after a big day out in the weather!
Whether you’re participating in one of our residential programmes, booking inidvidual activities, or hiring the centre to deliver your own educational opportunities, we are the perfect base for adventure learning, skills development, and nature connection experiences.
