The Humphrey Head Team
The Humphrey Head Team are from a variety of backgrounds and specialisms including qualified teachers, outdoor development specialists and industry training experts. We also have a team of highly qualified freelance instructors who support our programmes, making us adaptable to a wide range of group needs.
Elspeth - Head of Centre
Elspeth (she/her), is a qualified teacher who founded Mere Mountains 30 years ago to deliver courses for schools visiting the lakes. In 2016 she took on Humphrey Head as one of the very few traditional centres left which are able to run residential adventure learning programmes for individual schools.
Kirsty - Office Manager
Kirsty (she/her) manages the office and the centre and keeps us all organised! She’ll be the one making sure everything’s in place to make your stay as easy as possible, and is likely to be the first person you liaise with when reaching out to us.
John - Technical Director
John (he/him) is a qualified teacher, and Mountaineering Instructor, with many decades of exprience in the outdoor industry. He is the techncial advisor for Mere Mountains and Humphrey Head, making sure our staff training, equipment, and procedures, are all of the highest standard.
Lou- Senior Tutor
Lou (they/them) is our Senior Tutor and a specialist in Outdoor Learning programmes that blend adventure with nature connection and youth development. They have a varied background, having worked in Engineering, Conservation, and Alpine Adventure and bring elements of all of these to their instructing style!
Dave the Chef
Delicious, home cooked, food is an essential part of our residential experience. As a professional chef with experience working in a wide range of restaurants across Cumbria, Dave knows how to deliver a menu that keeps everyone happy and fuels us up for big days of adventure!
David Pegg- Tarn & Wood
Friend of the centre and incredibly experienced instructor, David Pegg runs a wide range of wilderness activities and is a regular contributor to our bushcraft sessions, both on-site at Humphrey Head, and in our nearby woodlands where we run immersive camps and workshops.
